Basics of Blueprinting

The presentation covers tools required, information sources, document repair procedures and finalize a damage assessment. Learn how to document repair processes correctly the attendee will be able to communicate the repair needs to all involved effectively. Starting with vehicle identification, tools required and the need to collaborate with shop personnel, we'll show various websites to help find repair processes, discuss diagnostic scanning, identify associated damage, proper photo documentation, structure measurement needs, corrosion protection requirements, refinish processes and repair validation through P-pages.

    John Shoemaker is a Business Development Manager for BASF Automotive Refinish Coatings - North America and began his career in the automotive repair industry as a helper in a small body shop in Campbell, California. Entering the military, he has been an automotive and body repair technician, vehicle maintenance manager, accident investigator, technical instructor and management system analyst while serving in the U.S. Air Force.

    Since returning to the civilian sector he has managed several dealership collision centers, was a dealership service director, a consultant to management system users as an implementation specialist and as the owner of JSE Consulting LLC has provided best practice training in Estimatics, Damage Analysis, Marketing, Lean Implementation, & Collision Center Management.

    John has assisted CCC Information Services in development and implementation of the Production Assistant system, and evaluated CCCOne during the development stages. John’s creation of a Direct Estimating marketing booklet led the program manager of the Performance Claim Passport program to solicit his advice during the development phase.

    John has held I-CAR certifications in: Damage Analysis, Frontal Impact Analysis, Fundamentals of Collision Repair, Steel Full-Frame Technologies and Repair, Steel Unitized Structures Technologies and Repair which was recognized through JSE Consulting LLC’s Gold Class recognition. As an ASE certified damage appraiser, John achieved the Accredited Automotive Manager certification through the Automotive Management Institute.
