EV DC Chargers, a New Opportunity for Power Electronic Players
According to Yole Développement, Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) will become the largest EV/HEV segment – about 16.5 million vehicles in 2026. To support this BEV market growth, electric vehicle charging infrastructure must be developed in parallel to reduce charging time since electric energy is the fuel of BEV and On-board Charger power capabilities are limited. The new installed DC chargers’ market is expected to reach more than 400,000 units by 2026, with a CAGR of 16%. This total market growth hides inequalities: all the segments do not grow at the same pace. DC chargers with power lower than 50kW will remain the mainstream whereas chargers between 100 and 200kW are expected to have the fastest growth, with a CAGR of 41% by 2026. However, there will be a big push for 350kW chargers. This discussion aims’ is to evaluate and quantify the impact of DC chargers in active power electronic component market.
