Overworked and Underpaid Time, Money, and Event Safety
Experts from five countries discuss our industry’s very problematic relationship with working hours and the subsequent problems that are associated with it. No matter what the conditions are, we always try to adhere to that time old adage: “the show must go on”. Why do we feel motivated to work more than we should or are allowed? Why are the studies relating to fatigue and mental stress in our industry largely ignored by those overly motivated technicians, their employers and customers? How can we change a system that seems to work so well albeit at the cost of 12-hour shifts and an 84-hour work week? What are the implications in regard to event safety? After some facts and figures, the panel will look for solutions to a very persistent problem.
