Unique Test Chambers to Address Modern Technologies
Rapidly evolving technologies such as autonomous cars, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and mmWave 5G communications are driving some innovative design work in today’s modern test and measurement chambers. Additional challenges such as 5G mmWave measurements beyond 200 GHz, testing all the sensors systems on autonomous vehicles, or building an EMP survivable command center in a commercial building, have pushed far past traditional chamber construction methods and design parameters. Further, space and budget considerations have now pushed the need for multi-purpose chambers; for example, one chamber that may be used for both EMC and antenna pattern measurements. Anechoic chambers no longer need be just a metal box with absorber patches here and there; reverberation chambers need not be just a rigid metal box with a paddle. This presentation will discuss alternatives to traditional anechoic and reverberation test chamber designs to meet today’s demand for multi-purpose, compact, and economical test facilities.
