Elgar Straub (55) is Managing Director of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies
and of VDMA Bavaria in Munich. He has been in charge of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies since 1995 and of VDMA Bavaria section since 2000. With his long experience in the Garment and Leather Technology he is one of the leading experts in this industry in Germany and beyond.
In addition, Elgar Straub headed VDMA Northrhine-Westfalia as Managing Director from 1995 to 2000. During this period, he was also in charge of the VDMA Liaison Office at the Federal Government in Bonn. Before that, from 1991 to 1995, he headed the Executive Managements office at the VDMA headquarters in Frankfurt/Main. From 1989, Elgar Straub had gathered his first experience with VDMA as manager in the Economic and Social Policy department.
The focal points of Elgar Straub’s activities for VDMA have always been strongly characterized by his representation of politico-economic interests, international economic development, internal organization of the association as well as strategic consultancy.
Elgar Straub started his career as trainee in the field of security policy within the Directorate General of the European Commission in Brussels from 1988 to 1989.He studied Political Science and Economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In parallel to his studies, he worked as research associate at Prof. Dr. Eckart Zimmermann’s chair at the University of the Bundeswehr in Neubiberg near Munich.
Elgar Straub is married and has four children.
