Katja Bernert is architect at the internationally operating manufacturer of textile membranes Low and Bonar. As a partner of planners of tensile architecture all over the world, K. Bernert closes the gap between product developers and architects/engineers. In this role she works together with many of the leading design and engineering offices. Her material consultancy reaches from the planner’s first sketches over to the realisation. Before joining L&B K. Bernert worked for German architects “von Gerkan, Marg and Partners – gmp”. Working on the roof structures of Berlin Olympic Stadium and the Worldcup Arena in Frankfurt she gained planner’s experience in the field of tensile architecture. Her technical expertise was deepened when she joint the coating industry. In the context of textile architecture Katja Bernert is internationally invited as lecturer, workshop instructor and into the scientific committees of symposia. Besides she is author of scientific papers and articles. She studied at the Technical University in Aachen RWTH and at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, UK.She is founding member and chairman of the international industry association AMA, Architectural Membrane Association e.V., member of the Institute for Membrane and Shell Technology, IMS e.V. and of TensiNet, European network for Tensile Structures. She is listed member of the Chamber of Architects.
