Advanced footwear odour control strategy

The fundamental basis of footwear odor is the sweat of the skin. Sweat itself is odorless.
Together with other skin components such as fatty acids, volatile organic compounds are released.
They are responsible for the well-known unpleasant footwear odor which has a distinct cheesy/acidic note.
These volatile organic compounds can be analyzed by gas chromatography.
The knowledge of the composition of these volatile organic compounds in correlation to the bacterial composition allows us to find the best strategy against footwear odor.
