Prof. Dr. Martine Bouman
Since 1999, Martine Bouman is the Founder and Scientific
Director of the Center for Media & Health (CMH) in the Netherlands. Her
research focuses on media use, popular culture, narrative persuasion, health
communication, health literacy and socioeconomic health differences. CMH designs
and explores new communication strategies to effectively reach vulnerable
groups in society and stimulates collaborative partnerships between the worlds
of media, health and science. She has
earned a global reputation for her research and creative work in designing and
testing narrative persuasion and engaging communication strategies (on digital
and conventional mass media platforms) to solve a wide variety of social
problems in the field of health, sustainability and social tolerance. For her
pioneering work she won various prestigious (inter)national awards, such as the
Everett M. Rogers Entertainment Education Achievement Award in 2010 and the
Marc Cornelissen Brightlands Award 2017. Since 2015, Prof. dr. Martine Bouman
has been appointed as an Endowed Professor Entertainment Media and Social
Change at the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture
(ERMeCC), in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
