3D Audio? Psychoacoustic foundations and technical realisation of sound design in space.

Spatial audio has been a hot topic for many years. With its widespread adoption in cinema, with-height formats are finally gaining wider acceptance. This presentation looks into the mechanisms of spatial hearing and the fundamental techniques of creating and reproducing spatial sound, its limitations, challenges, and creative potential.

    Jörn Nettingsmeier is a freelance audio engineer specializing in Ambisonics, based in Amsterdam. He works as sound designer for theatre and performance art, live music and recording engineer, and leads the live sound department at Verband Deutscher Tonmeister (VDT). Since 2012, Mr. Nettingsmeier has served as technical executive director of the VDT International Convention (Tonmeistertagung).
